CMPD arrest suspect in fatal University-area shooting

 Richard Clarke, 48, was shot and killed overnight Sunday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection to a homicide in Charlotte's University area that left one person dead.

CMPD responded to the 2800 block of Bustlehead Court just before midnight on Sunday to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. When they arrived on the scene, they found the body of 48-year-old Richard Clarke who had reportedly died from an apparent gunshot wound.

Man arrested, charged with possession of weapons of mass destruction in Huntersville

After a short investigation and interviewing witnesses, homicide detectives identified Ricky Alexander, 21, as a suspect in the homicide.

A murder warrant was issued for Alexander on Monday. Detectives interviewed him and subsequently charged him for his alleged involvement in Clarke's death.
